Get to Know Us
Meet Paul & Dawn, owners and operators at Lowland Private Hire. A husband and wife team with combined driving experience of 70+ years, across the UK, Europe and North America. Proudly holding full and clean licenses since 1989.
Both Paul and Dawn originally hail from Stranraer, in the south west of Scotland and were friends through school before leaving for pastures new in the late 80s to follow their own individual journeys.
Paul
After studying Business in Edinburgh, Paul spent the next 30+ years predominantly working in financial services, with a specialism in insight and consumer/B2B experience.
After managing to escape from the world of finance, Paul enjoyed a career with VisitScotland for almost a decade. This experience and insight into consumers, businesses and their travel experiences has been instrumental in launching this new business in 2024.
Paul excels in this new adventure as, whilst not being a professional driver until recently, his pride and passion for the Lowlands, and Scotland generally, allows him to inspire visitors, old and new, to get the best from their travel experiences and journeys.
Using his extensive knowledge of the area and its natural beauty and assets, Paul ensures that everyone has the opportunity to wholly appreciate the sense of space and place that this stunning land offers..
Dawn
After studying and working in Edinburgh for almost a decade, Dawn took a position at the British Embassy in Washington D.C. then moved to the International Monetary Fund in D.C., where she worked for 10 years.
Primarily working in an administrative and editorial setting within Research and then Money Laundering, Combating the Finance of Terrorism and Offshore Financial Centres. This interesting and rewarding career offered a great insight into the workings of governments and organisations across the world.
A few years after her twin sons were born, Dawn made the decision to migrate back to her home country of Scotland. Working for several years for ICAS in Edinburgh, she decided to relocate back to her hometown of Stranraer, bringing her boys up in a wonderful part of the country.
Since 2012, Dawn had concentrated on her own business as a self-employed Editorial Consultant, working for clients in the accountancy, economics and tourism fields. It is the mix of these interesting works that has given her the knowledge and insight to help in setting up and running this family business.
When not driving for Lowland Private Hire, Dawn can also be found creating beautiful and eco-friendly home giftware and jewellery pieces at Billow & Breeze, utilising and recycling items, such as Loch Ryan Oyster Shells, Solway Coast Scallop Shells and many other treasures from in and around our beautiful coastal region.
How the partnership was formed...
Finally, after 30+ years, Paul eventually plucked up the courage to ask Dawn out on a date. Shortly after, Paul moved back to his hometown of Stranraer and the pair got married a year later.
After enjoying a beautiful first anniversary dinner and drinks at an exclusive, rural hotel nearby, the pair struggled to get home due to lack of transport provision. This provided the inspiration and spark to establish a transportation business catering to local, domestic and international visitors who want to enjoy these relatively remote, hidden gems.
This has developed into a desire to not only provide transportation solutions but to also deliver bespoke tours and experiences which highlight the hidden treasures that the Lowlands of Scotland has to offer...from stunning botanical gardens to spectacular lighthouses, Galloway Dark Skies to the SW Coastal 300, distillery experiences to award winning tasting menus in the most beautiful local hotels, resorts and estates. The Lowlands has it all...Scotland Starts Here!
Our specific part of the Lowlands, here in Galloway, has an amazing wealth of sights, tastes and experiences to suit everyone's palette.
